2023 f1 season

round 2: saudi arabia (mar 17-19)

qualifying

aston dominance is still in full swing it seems. we've got alonso starting p3 tomorrow and stroll starting p6. another shocker, max had engine issues and will be starting p15. who knows if he'll be able to make his way back up the grid, but honestly, i won't be surprised if he does lol. max is a powerhouse. everything else is pretty much business as usual. checo is on pole which will be exciting, russell is in p4 (please george i'm begging you for a podium) and ocon and gasly are in p7 and p10 respectively. norris crapped out in Q1 and piastri will be p9 tomorrow.

so, you asked about fantasy changes?

round 1: bahrain (mar 3-5)

qualifying

first of all what the hell is going on???? aston martin are killing it suddenly????? i'm very confused. i think we as an f1 community are all pretty shocked by that. testing went pretty much as expected in terms of how well teams did, but i don't think anyone was expecting the sudden aston dominance. p5 for nando and p8 for lance. especially with lance's wrist injury, which btw, how is he able to race?? the commentators said he broke that wrist and will literally be racing with pins in his hand. there's probably a lot of pressure on him to perform well especially with these quali results. just... wow. tomorrow's gonna be bonkers. pierre qualified last in the alpine which makes me worried tbh. i want him to do well so badly because he is a fantastic driver who's just had rough luck with cars... i hope he gets used to the alpine quickly and starts killing it.

anyways, here are tomorrow's fantasy standings for team pierre girlboss gasly. i know it's the first race of the season but i didn't spend too much time researching to come up with this, i just took a quick look at who did well in testing and put it against my own thoughts and opinions about certain drivers and the teams they race for. i'm playing in a small league with a few friends with no prize money so there isn't much riding on this lol. so far i have:

i think i have some... decent picks? russell and perez are obviously great picks from two very great teams (i have a great feeling about checo this season. don't ask me why. just vibes.) i put gasly as my double points scorer because he's a great driver and he's with a way better team this season. alpine french revolution!!! i just hope he starts doing better than how he did todayyy oh boy. and kmag is just a heavy hitter in general, he killed it with haas last season and i think he's a good, cheap way to score some pointage. i mainly put tsunoda because i'm delusional and i really want him to do well. so badly. yuki please. i actually tried to replace him with piastri a few days ago but i guess it didn't go through? which ended up being a blessing because yuki qualified p14 and piastri qualified p18 lol. i feel so bad for piastri fr he worked so hard to get to f1 and he ended up with... mclaren... unfortunate lol. picked ferrari and alpine as constructors because they seemed like reasonably-priced but still good picks. there are a lot of new rules and gameplay mechanics this season that i probably should have tried to figure out before the first race... but like i said there isn't much riding on this fantasy league it's just for funsies lol.

ANYWAYS i really look forward to tomorrow. i wanna see pierre make up some places and see what ends up happening with the aston martins. i feel like a kid on christmas eve lol. first race day since last november!!! eep!!! will report back after the race tmrw.

so that wasn't nearly as exciting as i thought it would be, but still a good race!! max obviously killed it today, my mom and i were joking that he had all of this pent up energy from the off season and that's why he was so far ahead. lol. alonso made it to the podium which was just awesome, so proud of him and the team, aston have been busting it for the past few years trying to get a competitive car and it seems like they've got one now. still early in the season though, so who knows. but alonso took p3 and driver of the day today.

meanwhile, in alpineland... ocon took not one, not two, but THREE penalties. one for not lining up in his starting grid slot correctly, a second for not serving the first penalty correctly (the FIA alleges that the pit crew touched his car before the 5 seconds were up,) and a final penalty for speeding in the pitlane. sigh. pierre ended up climbing from p20 to the tail end of points in p9, so that's good. but it seems like the alpine is a bit slower this year. everyone else did pretty much as well as i expected to. mclaren absolutely sucked which makes me feel so bad for lando and piastri but also that's what the team gets for getting rid of daniel tbh! get got zak brown

so obviously some fantasy changes need to happen. i have a decent chunk of my budget left so i think i'll splurge on some high-ticket drivers or constructors. specifically i'm looking at getting leclerc or sainz instead of magnussen and maybe bottas instead of tsunoda. not sure if i'm gonna keep or get rid of alpine as a constructor but i wanna keep ferrari. they're not letting me change anything in the app yet, but i'll show my new lineup in 2 weeks at jeddah. see ya then! xoxo
