needy streamer overload (also known as needy girl overdose) is a 2022 indie denpa-kei management simulator/visual novel developed by xemono and wss playground. currently the game is playable on PC, macOS, and nintendo switch. the game can be played in english, japanese, and chinese.
the game began development in 2020 under the title needy girl overdose. the name was eventually changed to needy streamer overload for the western release (in japan the game is still known as needy girl overdose.) the literal translation of the chinese title is "the streamer girl is heavily reliant."
the game's story and dialogue were written by nyalra, illustrator ohisashiburi designed the characters, and the game's soundtrack was composed in denpa-style by aiobahn. currently there are 22 unique endings to the game that can be achieved through certain paths of the story.
a new streamer ascends!
you play as p-chan, the significant other of ame-chan. ame-chan is a deeply neurotic, mentally ill, needy NEET in her early twenties who spends her days as a shut-in, overdosing on drugs and browsing the web. ame-chan decides to become a famous streamer, so she can make enough money to get by and fulfill her deep-rooted need to be adored and fauned over by millions of jobless otaku. so ame creates a streamer persona, omgkawaiiangel (kangel for short,) the internet angel! the game begins when ame creates her streaming channel and does her first stream as kangel. it all goes haywire from there...

the game's interface is a windows 95-style computer desktop. this is where you carry out your actions ingame. a day is split into 3 sections: noon, dusk, and night. each action takes up a certain amount of time each day. a webcam window on the screen shows a live feed of ame. application icons on the left side of the screen show various actions you can have ame perform. you can travel, play games, browse the internet, watch TV, sleep, spend time together, and more! each action contributes to ame's stats, which are shown in a window on the upper right side of the screen: followers, stress, affection, and mental darkness. you spend a lot of the game trying to balance these stats, kind of like a tamagotchi. you also need to pay attention to JINE, a messaging app where you communicate with ame. she'll send you messages every day, and you can reply either with a prewritten message or a sticker. if you don't respond to her she gets mad and subtweets you on her private account, so make sure you respond to your gf!!
becoming the ultimate streamer
and of course, you stream as kangel! streams can only be performed at night. there are a ton of different stream topics that can be unlocked by performing certain actions. before each stream, a magical girl-esque sequence plays showing ame transforming into kangel for the stream. during the streams you act as a moderator, deleting mean comments (this decreases her stress level) and choosing super chats for kangel to reply to.
happy end world
the initial goal of the game is to achieve 1 million followers by day 30 (the end of the game.) each of the 22 different endings can be achieved by combinations of reaching certain stat levels, doing certain streams, and performing certain actions. playing around with a lot of different actions, streams, and stat levels to achieve different endings is, in my opinion, what makes the game so interesting and gives it it's replay value! through each playthrough you learn more and more about ame and cultivate different kinds of relationships with her. her fans might adore her or turn against her. everything is based on your choices!
